Venturatalents is seeking a Vice President of Engineering for a Defense & Space focused organization in Winchester, VA. The role requires both strategic leadership and hands-on engineering in secure voice and telecoms.

You will translate business goals into robust engineering roadmaps, manage multi-program delivery, and build a high-performing team while ensuring cybersecurity and compliance with DoD requirements.

Qualifications

Overview - Confidential Search - Urgent Need

A Defense and Space communications company supporting DoD and commercial mission-critical customers is seeking a VP of Engineering as a replacement for a retiring executive. The current VP retires at the end of November, so an immediate start is strongly preferred to allow for knowledge transfer and crossover.

This is a senior Player-Coach role in a small, agile Defense & Space environment. You must be both a strong engineering leader and technically hands-on.

Key Responsibilities:

• Turn high-level company goals into technical reality by designing engineering roadmaps for secure communications platforms and managing them through to deployment
• Lead daily engineering operations for Defense and Commercial programs with focus on resource optimization, milestone achievement, and budgetary discipline
• Partner with executives to translate business requirements into engineering execution
• Provide Security Leadership - oversee critical cybersecurity tasks and harden mission-critical voice and data platforms against emerging threats
• Build and develop a matrixed team of 7 engineers through coaching, performance management, and strategic hiring

Must-Have Qualifications:

• Domain Expertise is Mandatory: Deep understanding of IP networking, VoIP, Secure Voice Telephony, and Cybersecurity
• Defense & Space / Secure Communications Experience: Experience supporting DoD / Government customers and working in security-sensitive environments. Familiarity with NG911 and Emergency Communications / Public Safety Communications is highly valued
• Technical Depth: 10+ years hands-on in telecommunications and network engineering - including delivery and operational ownership of voice infrastructure
• Leadership: 7+ years managing engineering teams and complex project lifecycles - roadmaps, budgets, milestones
• Proven ability to lead a small-to-mid-sized technical organization while remaining technically engaged
• Experience in B2B managed services and interoperability environments is a plus

Work Authorization / Clearance / Location - Please Read Carefully:

• Due to security clearance requirements, candidates must be U.S. Citizens and must be eligible to obtain and maintain the required security clearance. Existing clearance is a plus.
• Must be able to work onsite in Winchester, VA, Monday-Friday. Preferred candidates are local within approximately 1.5 hours (Winchester, Stephens City, Middletown, Front Royal, Martinsburg, Charles Town, Frederick County area)
