Job description

Mountain View, California, US; New York City, New York, US

Overview

Artificial Intelligence could be one of humanity’s most useful inventions. At Google DeepMind, we’re a team of scientists, engineers, machine learning experts and more, working together to advance the state of the art in artificial intelligence. We use our technologies for widespread public benefit and scientific discovery, and collaborate with others on critical challenges, ensuring safety and ethics are the highest priority.

The Role

As a Partnering Lead within our Foundational Research Unit, you’ll be a pivotal force in shaping the future of AI. You will provide strategic direction and lead change management initiatives across a complex, global organization. You will design and implement cutting-edge people and culture solutions that drive team performance and align with organizational goals, delivering measurable, impactful results. The role involves leading cross-functional People & Culture deliverables and ensuring alignment on complex projects.

You will partner with multiple Directors and VPs to architect and co-deliver a visionary People Plan, balancing ambitious business objectives with grounded People & Culture strategies in line with policies and legislation. You’ll oversee execution of the plan, using People data to inform decisions and staying aware of external talent markets to identify workforce risks and trends.

Drawing on organizational psychology, you will design for and navigate complex change. You will be a go-to expert across all People & Culture topics, advising Unit Leads/VPs and representing your client unit in People & Culture leadership decisions. When required, you will act as a trusted voice and strategic advisor. Line management may be a component of this role, so expectations for a GDM Manager will apply.

Key responsibilities
  • Drive Business Strategy and Outcomes: craft and implement workforce solutions to empower the GenAI Function to achieve strategy and growth.
  • Leadership Partnership: collaborate with multiple VPs and senior leaders to design and implement their visionary people plan.
  • Effective and Trusted Partnership: provide strategic guidance and translate requirements into proactive people and culture strategies.
  • Leadership Effectiveness: develop actionable plans, coach leaders, and improve leadership and team performance.
  • Masterful Collaboration: address undefined problems, research approaches, and leverage new ideas.
  • Creative Problem Solving: lead change with innovative, well-planned solutions in evolving environments.
  • A Data-Driven Approach: ground recommendations in data and research for maximum impact.
  • Change Agent: drive transformation aligning people with business objectives.
  • People Partnering Leadership: mentor teams to manage complex issues and promote HR best practices.
About You

To succeed as a People Partner at Google DeepMind, we look for:

  • Accomplished HR leader with experience in agile, scaling businesses and complex, matrixed organizations.
  • Seasoned thought partner with trusted 1:1 executive relationships and influencing decision-making.
  • Comfort with organizational complexity and change, with creativity to implement innovative ideas.
  • Passionate about coaching and developing individuals, fostering a supportive environment.
  • Deep working knowledge across HR functions including organizational design, learning and development, and reward and performance; able to translate into strategic guidance for leaders.
  • Strong understanding of human behavior and self-awareness.
  • Versatile and persistent in solving challenges; able to travel as needed to North America or EMEA and work across time zones.
  • Committed to a long-term mission and making a lasting difference.
  • Desirable: experience with post-merger integration and culture change; experience in AI or product organizations, or within Alphabet.
