Overview
Shermco US is seeking a Protection and Control Technician.
Responsibilities
- Installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of protective relay equipment, powerline carrier equipment, digital fault recorders (DFRs), remote terminal units (RTUs), and communication processors.
- Functional testing for protection and control circuitry associated with transmission lines, HV bus, transformer, circuit breaker, feeder, reactors, and capacitor banks.
- RTU and telecom upgrades for various clients.
- Experience with SEL microprocessor relays such as 311C, 311L, 387, 411L, 421, 487B, 487E, 487V, 587, 587Z, and 787.
- Desired experience with GE microprocessor relays such as C30, D60, F35, L90, T35, and T60.
- Experience with various RTUs and communication processors such as GE, Telvent, SEL, Cooper, and Novatech.
- Reviewing, documenting, and submitting test reports for client and regulatory purposes.
- Interpreting wiring, schematic diagrams, and communication configurations, recognizing discrepancies.
- Completing time and expense reports and maintaining company vehicle condition.
Qualifications
- 5+ years experience in electrical testing with protection and control equipment, RTUs, and telecom, working with HV utility, co-op, power generation, federal, or municipal clients.
- Bachelor's in Engineering or Technology, technical school diploma, or military electrical experience.
- Experience with transmission and distribution relays (SEL, GE, ABB, Westinghouse).
- Experience with substation RTUs, communication processors, and telecom for brownfield and greenfield projects.
- Project management experience in protection and control teams in HV substations.
- Knowledge of NERC CIP requirements.
Requirements
- Ability to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders, stand for long periods, drive regularly.
- Pass physical, drug, background checks, and OSHA training.
- Work outdoors, travel extensively, and work overtime as needed.
- Fluent in English.
