Job Description

NOTE: This is an onsite position and reports to the New Albany, OH location.

The position resides in the PCE Standards organization with primary responsibilities for developing and supporting IDC-related best practices and processes. Perform engineering activities, provide technical guidance, and offer engineering expertise and direction to Transmission team members. Develop expertise in communications systems used in substation protection and control devices.

Contribute to process and engineering needs for key initiatives such as PCE Standards IDC and Smart CAD design efforts alongside the Design team. Utilize

  • Guide and assist in developing training materials and programs for knowledge transfer and accelerated learning to support employees' career progression, involving internal and external teams working on IDC Smart CAD efforts.
  • Possess expert knowledge of AEP Design Standards, procurement processes, and CAD utilization tools.
    - Demonstrate leadership skills necessary to lead teams, ensure activities comply with company policies, standards, and regulations, and effectively identify and address emerging issues.

Leverage experience to co-lead and support the development of substation network standards as AEP progresses on IEC61850 utilization with fiber-connected substation monitoring and protection devices.
• Interface with AEP Telecommunication and SCADA Engineering groups to support and improve standards involving telecommunication equipment related to substation SCADA and security applications, including network, SCADA, fiber, and wireless applications.
• Collaborate with the Transmission Telecommunications Substation Network team to support improvements with PCE Standards and joint solutions.
• Support Distribution Automation (DA) needs impacting substation SCADA and communication, including supporting DA PCE standard designs.
• Provide fiber solution needs for equipment interfaces, working with vendors to ensure quality solutions for AEP substation and point-of-delivery applications.
• Support fiber multiplexor PCE standard applications and guide Transmission personnel.
• Support Data Gateway / RTU standards and suggest improvements as needed.

Engineer (SG6): ($72,380 - $90,475)

  • Typically requires 2 or more years of related engineering experience and a Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Candidates with a Master's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program may be considered for this level.
  • *ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.

Acceptable alternative:

  • Bachelor's in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master's or PhD in engineering from an ABET-accredited university.

Engineering Technologist (SG6):($72,380 - $90,475)

  • Typically requires 2+ years of experience applying engineering principles; Bachelor's in engineering technology from an ABET-accredited program preferred. Engineering degrees are also considered.
  • *ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the ABET. An alternative is a Bachelor's in engineering technology (non-ABET) plus a Master's or PhD in engineering technology from an ABET-accredited program.

Engineer (SG7):($85,081 - $106,354)

  • Typically requires 4+ years of related engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program, or 2 years with a Master's degree. A PhD may also qualify.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is encouraged and preferred.*

Acceptable alternative:

  • Bachelor's in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master's or PhD from an ABET-accredited program. Confirmation of PE licensure compatibility with NCEES standards is required.

Engineering Technologist (SG7):($85,081 - $106,354)

  • Typically 4+ years of relevant experience applying engineering principles; Bachelor's in engineering technology from an ABET-accredited program preferred. Engineering degrees are also considered.

*VP or above may waive the non-ABET degree requirement.

Compensation Data

Grade: SP20-006

Range: $72,380 - $90,474.50 USD

The physical demand level is Sedentary Work: exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, involving mostly sitting, with occasional walking or standing.
