Responsibilities

  • Assesses students to maximize learning and overcome psychological, behavioral, social, and academic challenges.
  • Assists with identification and placement of all types of exceptional education students.
  • Attends case conferences and meetings for students with special needs.
  • Maintains RtI/MTSS expertise to provide guidance from individual to system levels.
  • Provides behavioral consultation to teachers, administrators, and families.
  • Maintains knowledge in crisis response and threat assessments per district curricula.
  • Acts as resource on mental health and child psychology; conducts in-service trainings as requested.
  • Conducts individual or group therapy sessions for students needing mental health support.
  • Coordinates with admins and staff to identify student abilities and needs, including exceptional education students.
  • Assists with district suicide prevention efforts and conducts suicide risk assessments when needed.
  • Supports dropout prevention efforts within the district.
  • Keeps up professional knowledge by attending seminars and workshops; conducts relevant research.
  • Organizes and maintains accurate student records for colleges and employers as required.
  • Encourages parental involvement and maintains effective communication with students and parents.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director of Exceptional Education.
