Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital seeks an experienced Veterinary Technician for our busy Emergency and Critical Care department in Illinois. This role offers meaningful patient care, competitive pay, sign-on bonus up to $3,500, and shift differentials to reward night and weekend work.

You will assist with anesthesia, triage, radiography, patient monitoring, and client communication, while mentoring teammates and growing your skills in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Qualifications

• Licensed veterinary technician in Illinois or eligibility.
• Experience in emergency/critical care settings.
• Ability to triage and monitor critical patients.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia.
• Triage emergency cases and monitor vitals.
• Perform digital radiography with proper technique.
• Understand normal vital sign ranges and alert veterinarians.
• Interpret blood pressure and other vitals; respond to changes.
• Identify patients at risk and initiate CPR.
• Calculate medical dosages and administer medications.
• Phlebotomy and IV catheter placement.
• Place feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Mentor and train co-workers.
• Address client concerns with empathy.

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring experienced Veterinary Technicians to work in our busy Emergency and Critical Care department.

• Sign on Bonus up to $3,500 for qualified candidates*

Pay Range: $23.21 - $47.05

• This pay band is dependent on local veterinary licensing, experience, and advancement through our competency assessment tool.

• Weekday Night (Mon-Fri 6p to 8a): $4.00
• Weekend Day (Sat-Sun 8a to 6p): $4.00
• Weekend Night (Sat-Sun 6p to 8a): $5.50

As An Emergency Veterinary Technician, You Will

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
