Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking experienced Overnight Emergency Veterinary Technicians for Wednesday–Friday 6:00pm–6:00am shifts. Pay ranges from $21.00 to $41.00 per hour, with starting point based on experience and progression through our leveling system.

The role includes performing physical exams, phlebotomy, IV catheter placement, medication administration and client communication while collaborating with ER doctors and specialists to care for critically ill or injured pets.

Responsibilities

Shift Available

Pay: $21.00 - $41.00 / hour

This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through our leveling system.

We also offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends.*Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum.

• Weekday Night (Mon-Fri 6P to 8A): $3.00
• Weekend Day (Sat-Sun 8A-6P): $3.00
• Weekend Night (Sat-Sun 6P-8A): $4.50

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Performs physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Understands normal vital parameters and alerts doctor when abnormal.
• Performs phlebotomy.
• Ability to place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein.
• Able to read and follow orders written on treatment sheet accurately and in a timely manner.
• Alerts veterinarian if a patient's status has changed and/or physical exam or monitoring parameters are outside of normal ranges.
• Calculates basic medical math.
• Understands classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
• Administers medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Prepares medications and patient for discharge and communicates discharge instructions to client.
• Maintains solid grasp of common veterinary medical terms and abbreviations and can converse with other veterinary professionals in medical terms.
• Able to address client concerns and answer them appropriately during visits, updates, or after hospitalization, for their skill set. Quickly and competently facilitates incoming calls.
• Implement appropriate animal husbandry skills to decrease disease spread, injury and stress to patients.
