Overnight Veterinary Technician to join our growing team.
This position is
overnight only, offering the opportunity to work with critical cases and advanced treatments during late-night hours. We are looking for someone with
strong technical skills and experience who is comfortable performing treatments on ICU patients, monitoring anesthesia, and supporting veterinarians with complex procedures in an intensive care setting. The ideal candidate will have a passion for veterinary medicine and thrive in a high-stakes, fast-paced environment.
As an
Overnight Veterinary Technician, you will provide critical care to our patients in the
Internal Medicine Department during overnight hours. You will be responsible for carrying out advanced technical procedures, monitoring patients in intensive care, and assisting the veterinarians with treatments. This position requires a high level of experience and expertise in managing patients with complex medical conditions, as well as the ability to work independently during overnight shifts.
Schedule:
- Overnight shifts, rotating weekdays and weekends, including at least 2 weekends per month and rotating holidaysbased on clinic needs.
- Must be able to handle the unique demands of overnight care, ensuring our patients receive continuous, high-quality support during non-daylight hours.
Key Responsibilities- Patient Care & Monitoring:
- Monitor ICU patients overnight, including managing vital signs, administering medications, and providing supportive care.
- Assist veterinarians with diagnostics and treatments for patients, including blood draws, catheter placements, and administering IV fluids and medications.
- Assist with anesthesia monitoring during surgical procedures or diagnostic imaging as necessary.
- Provide post-procedure care to ensure comfort and recovery, including monitoring for complications, pain management, and supportive treatments.
- Perform advanced technical procedures such as radiography, blood transfusions, and other diagnostic tests as directed by veterinarians.
- Assist with emergency treatments during overnight hours, including stabilization of critical patients, emergency diagnostics, and interventions.
- Client Communication & Education:
- Communicate with pet owners during overnight shifts, providing updates on their pet's condition and addressing concerns.
- Offer guidance and education on treatment plans, procedures, and aftercare for clients of ICU patients.
- Team Collaboration & Support:
- Work closely with the Internal Medicine team and collaborate with specialists to ensure continuity of care for patients in the ICU.
- Assist in rounds and case discussions, contributing valuable insights on the care and progress of ICU patients.
- Ensure that all clinical activities align with our standard of care and protocols.
- Record-Keeping & Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records of all treatments, diagnostics, and procedures.
- Document patient progress, lab results, medications administered, and any changes in condition.
- Clinic Operations & Cleanliness:
- Ensure the ICU and exam rooms are clean, organized, and fully stocked for all procedures.
- Maintain the cleanliness of equipment and instruments used during the night shift.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise to be SuccessfulRequired:- Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of veterinary technician experience, preferably in an emergency, critical care, or internal medicine setting.
- Technical Proficiency:
- Strong skills in phlebotomy, catheter placements, radiology, and anesthesia monitoring.
- Experience in caring for critically ill or injured patients, especially in an ICU environment.
- Ability to manage complex medical cases independently and in collaboration with the team during overnight shifts.
- Communication:
- Excellent client communication skills, especially during stressful or emergency situations.
- Ability to provide clear updates to clients and collaborate with the veterinary team to ensure cohesive care.
- Adaptability: Ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision during overnight hours.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand, walk, and lift for extended periods during overnight shifts.
Preferred:- Certification: Certification as a Veterinary Technician (LVT, RVT, or CVT) is preferred, but not required.
- ICU Experience: Experience working in an ICU or emergency department is highly preferred.
- Advanced Medical Knowledge: Familiarity with advanced internal medicine diagnostics and treatments, such as endoscopy, ultrasound, or specialized laboratory tests.

We have an emergency and critical care unit that is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We have a variety of board-certified surgeons and specialists at AESC who treat a wide range of veterinary orthopedic, oncology, thoracic, abdominal, and soft-tissue conditions.
