Overnight Veterinary Diagnostic Assistant, MVS

If you are highly organized, compassionate, energetic, and possess excellent collaboration skills, we invite you to join our team at MissionVet Specialty & Emergency (MVS) as an Overnight Veterinary Diagnostic Assistant.

MissionVet Specialty & Emergency is a multidisciplinary hospital established in 2012 as a sister hospital to Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists. We have grown to be a leading provider of emergency and specialty veterinary care in San Antonio and South Texas, staffed by industry leaders and board-certified experts committed to innovative, high standards of care.

Position Overview

The Diagnostic Assistant reports directly to the Emergency/Critical Care Supervisors, senior technicians, and the Hospital Administrator. The role involves enhancing patient care quality, managing responsibilities efficiently, and supporting the Emergency/Critical Care Departments with flexibility and dedication.

Compensation
  • $17-$19/hr based on experience
  • +$3/hr overnight differential
  • +$1/hr weekend differential
Schedule
  • Full Time: Friday to Sunday, 8pm-8am
Key Responsibilities
  • Processing all in-house testing samples, including CBCs, biochemistry, coagulation panels, urine analysis, cross match testing, blood smears, fecal tests, and send-out tests like PCR and serology.
  • Assisting in restraining and positioning patients for sample collection.
  • Understanding small animal anatomy and radiography positioning and safety.
  • Data entry: laboratory requests, invoicing, report uploads, and communication with referring clinics.
  • Proper use and maintenance of diagnostic imaging equipment.
  • Following PPE protocols and disinfecting equipment after use.
  • Supporting hospital cleanliness and patient care activities, including walking, feeding, and assisting with treatments.
  • Supporting clinic procedures and patient care standards to ensure high-quality service.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma required; Associate's degree preferred or equivalent experience.
  • 1-2 years veterinary assistant experience preferred.
  • Minimum 1-year experience with veterinary laboratory equipment.
  • Adaptability to healthcare environment changes supported by technology and process updates.
  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Fluent English (speaking and reading); multilingual skills a plus.
