Job summary

Volunteers of America Northern California and Northern Nevada is seeking an Overnight Support Staff member for the Options Transitional Living team. This full-time role supports homeless families in a safe, respectful environment, with devoted case management, life-skills classes, and housing referral services.

The position requires CPR and First Aid training within 90 days, ability to work non-traditional hours, and strong teamwork and communication.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate and comprehend oral and written instructions.
• Understanding of issues related to homelessness, substance abuse, youth, and disabilities.
• CPR and First Aid training within 90 days of employment; re-certification as necessary.

Responsibilities

• Explain program rules and regulations to residents and facilitate observance of rules.
• Coordinate meal preparation and daily routines (beds, showers, laundry).
• Provide overnight shift coverage and maintain safety and security checks.
• De-escalate crises and provide emergency assistance when needed.
• Maintain daily reports and documentation; perform clerical duties on shift.
• Communicate clearly with residents and staff; follow program objectives and policies.
• Support resident development and assist with program activities and training of new staff.
