Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council runs three yearly summer overnight camps: Misty Meadows Ranch, Camp Agnes Arnold, and Casa Mare. GSSJC camp staff will be trained to work at all three camps but primarily work at Misty Meadows and Agnes Arnold in Conroe, TX. Staff will live onsite Sunday noon through Saturday noon. Room and board are provided for all staff. Living accommodations are primarily climate controlled, but staff must be willing to live, sleep, and work in non-air-conditioned spaces.
Head Counselors are assigned to a group of campers and living unit with a co-counselor each week. They have the same responsibilities as Counselors but also act as role models and mentors for their fellow counselors and other staff. Head Counselors spend all daily programming time with their assigned group of campers facilitating camp activities. They report to the Assistant Camp Directors and must have worked at a GSSJC overnight camp before.
The Leadership Specialist facilitates the CIT/WIT (Counselor/Wrangler in Training) and other leadership sessions as designed by GSUSA and GSSJC. They spend all daily programming time with their assigned group of campers facilitating the GSSJC Leadership Program. The Leadership Specialist acts as a role model and mentor for all staff, reporting to the Assistant Camp Directors and must have worked at a GSSJC overnight camp before.
Program Specialists facilitate a variety of activities depending on their individual skills such as archery, riflery, challenge course, canoeing and kayaking, lifeguarding and other camp activities. Staff are only required to be certified in two to three activities. All certifications are provided by GSSJC. Program Specialists act as experts in their certified activities and provide coaching and guidance to other staff regarding those areas of expertise. They report to the Program Directors.
Head Lifeguards manage and facilitate day-to-day pool operations and/or waterfront operations and are mentors to lifeguard staff. They spend all daily programming time lifeguarding at their assigned pool or the waterfront and report to the Aquatics Director.
Media Specialists are responsible for capturing photos and videos of campers and staff and uploading them to the GSSJC photo share site daily, as well as working with the Marketing Director to create engaging marketing material. Applicants should have experience using a DSLR camera and knowledge of social media trends for marketing purposes. Media Specialists will be responsible for creating their own daily schedule and managing their time to photograph all activities taking place at camp daily. They report to the GSSJC Marketing Director and Camp Director.
GSSJC provides applicable training and certifications for hired staff. All staff are considered role models to all campers at GSSJC overnight camps and are expected to participate in camp activities such as evening all-camp activities, meals in the lodge, evening camper supervision, and camp check-in and check-out.
