People USA – Peer Run Behavioral & Mental Health, Recovery, and Wellness seeks a Per Diem Peer Specialist at the Dutchess County Stabilization Center in Poughkeepsie, NY. Overnight shifts include a $1.18/hour differential and pay rate of $24.76/hour, non-exempt, requiring trauma-informed, person-centered support.

The role involves crisis intervention, connecting guests to services, maintaining confidentiality, and promoting recovery with lived experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Personal lived experience with trauma, mental health, or substance abuse history.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• Must be willing to work holidays.
• Two years in recovery from acute care environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide support for guests during initial interaction, intake, arrival and departure.
• Provide immediate crisis support and intervention to guests in distress.
• De-escalate crises and work with clinical staff at the Crisis Support Center.
• Share personal experience to encourage mental health wellness and recovery.
• Assist in connecting guests to mental health and substance use services and community resources.
• Model trauma-informed techniques and WRAP, MHFA, MI, SafeTALK, and ASIST tools.
• Complete APS online learning and NY State Peer Specialist certification application or CRPA trainings.
• Maintain a trauma-informed environment with person-centered care.
• Collaborate with other People USA staff with clear, respectful communication.
