Job summary

Sumner Veterinary Hospital, part of National Veterinary Associates, is hiring a Full-Time Overnight ER Veterinary Assistant for the Thursday-Saturday, 6:00pm–7:00am shift. You will support veterinarians and LVTs with emergencies, triage cases, restrain animals, and maintain ICU areas.

Ideal candidates bring prior veterinary assistant or animal handling experience, are calm under pressure, and excel in teamwork and communication during overnight emergencies.

Qualifications

• Prior veterinary assistant or animal handling experience.
• Ability to stay calm, focused, and professional in high-stress situations.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Comfort working overnight hours and handling emergency cases.

Responsibilities

• Support veterinarians and LVTs with emergency cases and critical patients.
• Assist with patient triage, treatments, and nursing care.
• Safely restrain and handle patients.
• Prepare and maintain treatment areas, ICU spaces, and exam rooms.
• Monitor hospitalized patients and report changes to the doctor on staff.
• Maintain cleanliness, stocking, and organization of ER spaces.
• Provide compassionate support to pet owners during stressful situations.
