Job summary

Animal Emergency & Specialty Center of Knoxville is seeking experienced Veterinary Technicians or skilled Veterinary Assistants to join a fast-paced specialty and emergency environment in Knoxville, TN. This role focuses on ICU/ER patient care, advanced procedures, and collaborative team support.

You will monitor ICU patients overnight, assist with anesthesia, imaging, and lab work, and communicate treatment plans to owners, with pathways for growth toward certifications and advanced specialties.

Qualifications

• 2–3+ years of veterinary hospital experience (Emergency, ICU, or Specialty strongly preferred).
• Advanced technical skills in anesthesia, emergency procedures, and patient monitoring.
• Able to work independently on overnight shifts.
• Strong communication skills and a calm, confident presence under pressure.
• Physically able to lift, restrain, and stand for extended periods.
• Patient-first mindset and commitment to gold-standard care.

Responsibilities

• Provide overnight monitoring and management of ICU and critical care patients.
• Perform advanced technical procedures including: IV catheter placement, blood collection and transfusions, radiographs, anesthesia induction and monitoring.
• Assist with emergency stabilization, triage, and urgent interventions.
• Support Internal Medicine diagnostics such as ultrasound, endoscopy, and advanced lab testing.
• Administer medications via IV, IM, SQ, oral, and injectable routes.
• Deliver detailed post-procedure and critical care monitoring.
• Provide overnight patient updates to pet owners.
• Communicate treatment plans, diagnostics, and next steps with clarity and compassion.
• Work closely with ER doctors, ICU teams, and Internal Medicine specialists.
• Maintain accurate medical records and treatment logs.
