Job summary

YMCA of Greater Boston seeks an Assistant Equestrian Director for the North Woods Overnight Camp. You will oversee horseback riding, care for 12 horses, and supervise counselors and campers.

The role involves teaching western riding, maintaining safe riding areas, and coordinating feeding schedules with the outfitter and director. Requirements include high school completion and CPR/First Aid certifications, plus prior horse-care and teaching experience in a camp setting.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Extensive experience in horse care and prior instructional experience.
• Desire and ability to work with children and adults in camp setting.
• Ability to creatively schedule programs, facilities, and staff.
• Ability and experience in supervising staff and campers.
• Enthusiastic leader with patience and strong supervisory skills.
• Current CPR and First Aid certifications.

Responsibilities

• Maintain clean and safe riding equipment.
• Ensure horses are properly cared for; notify authorities if illness or injury occurs.
• Instruct campers in basic western riding including trails and horsemanship.
• Keep riding ring and stable area clean; report repairs beyond instructor’s ability.
• Supervise counselors and CTIs assisting in the program.
• Promote improvement of horsemanship and camper confidence.
• Follow safety policies and emergency procedures.
