Overview

Sumter Utilities, Inc. (a Quanta Services company) seeks entire Overhead Crews (Foreman, A Lineman, B Lineman, C Lineman, Operator, Groundman).

Successful candidates will possess existing experience working together as a construction crew. Preference may also be given to candidates who can bring additional qualified candidates to form complete work crews.

Possession of a valid Class A CDL is highly preferred. Those hired without a CDL may be required to obtain one within 90 days of employment.

Foreman:
  • Supervise and provide technical guidance to Linemen, Apprentices, and Groundmen on electrical distribution projects.
  • Coordinate on-site personnel and crew mobilization.
  • Enforce safety requirements and best practices.
  • Comfort with using new technologies (mobile devices/apps).
  • Manage supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Assist with planning, directing, and budgeting for construction projects.
  • Read and interpret site plans, drawings, and scopes of work.
  • Communicate with project personnel.
  • Follow detailed construction schedules.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to read blueprints and scopes of work.
  • Effective collaboration skills.
  • Willing to travel and work away from home.
  • Experience with utility equipment (digger derricks, bucket trucks, trenchers).
  • Ability to work at heights above 60 feet is preferred.
A Lineman:
  • Perform physical labor including climbing, rigging, lifting, and rescue.
  • Identify voltage on circuits.
  • Proficient in energized line work and blueprint reading.
  • Capable of wire sagging, hot line work, and operating bucket trucks and derricks.
  • Work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Understand grounding procedures and PPE use.
B Lineman:
  • Work safely on energized and de-energized conductors.
  • Set poles and anchors, maintain equipment.
  • Perform physical tasks and learn wire stringing and sagging techniques.
  • Work at heights, assist in structure framing, and install connections.
C Lineman:
  • Maintain active enrollment in the apprenticeship program.
  • Perform similar tasks as B Lineman, with additional training.
Equipment Operator:
  • Operate heavy equipment safely.
  • Perform overhead line work, maintain equipment, and follow safety protocols.
Groundman:
  • Assist with manual tasks, material handling, and site setup.
  • Perform physical labor outdoors and follow safety instructions.
Qualifications

The employee must be physically capable of performing the job, including climbing, lifting, and working outdoors in various weather conditions. Specific vision abilities are required.
