Job summary

Steel Technologies is seeking an experienced Crane Operator to operate an overhead crane and move materials to support production in Portage, Indiana. The role requires attention to detail for equipment inspection, defect detection, and proper securing of cargo per customer standards.

Responsibilities include crane operation, material handling, and maintaining crane training, while communicating safety concerns and quality issues to supervision.

Qualifications

• Experience operating an overhead crane (required).
• Knowledge of current crane operation protocol and safety standards.
• Ability to use tape measure and micrometer.
• Ability to regularly lift up to 10 lb, frequently 25 lb, and occasionally 75 lb.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily crane inspection and documentation.
• Operate overhead crane to transport materials to and from storage areas, workstations, load and unload trucks, and within areas of assignment.
• Locate material based on production information.
• Pull material from storage, ensure accuracy and transfer to machine storage area or to equipment as needed.
• Move material from machines to packaging and scales.
• Remove and replace slitter heads and scrap hoppers.
• Maintain up-to-date crane training.
• Communicate safety concerns and quality problems to supervisor and/or shift lead.
