The Arizona Department of Health Services invites an enthusiastic intern to join its Overdose Data to Action team. You are pursuing a degree and eager to apply coursework in program evaluation, epidemiology, data analysis, GIS/mapping, and public health.

You will support evaluation activities, analyze data, maintain a statewide naloxone map, and translate findings into reports and visuals for partners and leadership, under expert mentorship.

Job Summary

We are seeking a talented and engaged intern who is working toward a degree and wants to develop beyond the classroom! Job Duties

In this role, you will be responsible for supporting applied program evaluation and overdose prevention activities, including analyzing quantitative and qualitative data, developing and maintaining a statewide naloxone distribution map, and evaluating naloxone vending machine and peer navigation initiatives.

You will work with program partners, community members, and people with lived and living experience to better understand program reach, accessibility, barriers, and opportunities for improvement.

You will also help translate evaluation findings into meaningful reports, presentations, maps, and data visualizations for public health partners, leadership, and communities.

You will be coached and mentored by the Bureau Chief for Assessment and Evaluation, and/or others on the team by collaborating with them on group projects.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)
  • Strong verbal and communication skills.
  • Interest in public health, program evaluation, and overdose prevention
  • Time management, organization, planning and problem solving skills.
  • Experience with data analysis, Excel, statistical software, or GIS/mapping tools is a plus.

Pre-Employment Requirements

Employees who drive on state business require possession of and the ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment.
