Job summary

Astound is seeking a Broadband Network Technician I to work hands‑on in the field, repairing and maintaining underground coax and fiber infrastructure. The role requires outdoor work, climbing ladders, and using fusion splicers and test meters to restore service and ensure network reliability.

The candidate will detect outages, perform preventative maintenance, document work orders, and participate in a 24/7 on‑call rotation. High school diploma and 2+ years telecom experience are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 2+ years of hands‑on telecom field work or utilities experience.
• Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
• Strong customer service communication, both verbal and written.
• Basic computer skills and aptitude to learn new tools.
• Problem solving, time management and teamwork are essential.
• Ability to read and interpret maps and understand Outside Plant concepts.
• Work independently and in teams; maintain documentation.

Responsibilities

• Detect, troubleshoot and resolve system outages for data, video, and telephone.
• Prepare and perform emergency underground coaxial cable restoration and maintenance.
• Install, repair, and maintain coaxial and fiber cabling (aerial and buried).
• Operate ladders and field equipment (test meters, fusion splicers).
• Maintain required documentation (work orders, logs) and participate in on‑call rotation.

Job description

This is a hands‑on, field‑based role focused on maintaining and repairing underground coax and fiber infrastructure. The technician will work outdoors daily using ladders, and hand tools to restore service, perform preventative maintenance, and support network reliability. The Broadband Network Technician I is responsible for detecting, troubleshooting and resolving system outages for data, video, and telephone. This role will be responsible for emergency restoration of coax, Fiber, underground cable, maintenance of power supply, leakage, and splicing. The BNT I is required to maintain documentation as needed. Detect, troubleshoot and resolve system outages in aerial and/or underground capacities related to transmission levels, signal losses and off‑air interference. Prepare and perform emergency underground coaxial cable restoration due to variables such as cable breaks and/or damage. Perform preventative maintenance (power supply, actives) in the form of testing, balancing, alignment and adjustments of components or equipment Monitor, record and repair cable leakage, complying with applicable regulations Observe and assist co-workers with fiber splicing activities Complete and distribute required documentation, such as work orders and daily logs Install, replace, and repair coaxial and fiber optic cabling, including aerial and buried plant Operate ladders, and field equipment to include test meters, fusion splicers, and other necessary hand tools Participation in a 24/7 on‑call rotation Other duties as assigned.

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent
• 2+ years of hands‑on experience in telecom field work, cabling, construction, or utilities (coax, fiber, or electrical)
• Maintain satisfactory driving record and have a valid driver’s license

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs
• Work performed in both climate‑controlled and non‑climate‑controlled environments, with potential exposure to heat, cold, dust, damp conditions, uneven surfaces, heights, and moving vehicles
• Prolonged standing, walking, sitting, and driving required
• Ability to safely climb and work from ladders for extended periods of time
• Frequent reaching, pushing, pulling, climbing stairs and ladders, and using hands above and below shoulder level
• Ability to bend, twist, kneel, squat, crawl, and maintain various body positions and perform fine motor tasks, forceful gripping, and limited keyboarding

The base salary in Washington for this position is $23.15-$35.74 per hour plus opportunities for bonus, benefits and commission, if applicable. The base pay range represents the low and high end of the hiring range for this job. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to relevant skills, experience, and capabilities. It is specific to Washington and may not be applicable to other locations.

• Broadband Network Technician I: $23.15-$32.41
• Broadband Network Technician II: $24.31-$34.03
• Broadband Network Technician III: $25.53-$35.74f
