Job summary

ADP, Inc. is seeking an Outside Plant Tech II in El Paso, TX to splice and test fiber optic links, maintain records, and install telecom enclosures. The role requires hands-on experience with fusion splicers, OTDRs, meters, and bucket trucks, plus CDL and OSHA certification.

You will interpret engineering drawings, enter data into the fiber database, and troubleshoot issues affecting fiber networks on site.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 2 years fiber optic field splicing experience and test equipment.
• FOC or FiberOptic.com certification a plus.
• 2 years’ experience and OSHA certification for operating bucket truck up to 40’.
• Valid Texas CDL and clean driving record.
• I-9 E-verify, drug screen, background check, and orientation required.

Responsibilities

• Prep, terminate, splice, bond/ground and test fiber optic equipment to standards.
• Perform ring cuts, butt-splices on live fiber without affecting services.
• Test fiber with OTDRs, light source and meters.
• Maintain accurate fiber records and database entries.
• Monitor and fix problems affecting fiber equipment.
• Install/replace enclosures and related telecom gear.
• Use calibration and field tools as listed (fusion splicer, OTDR, meters, etc).
• Interpret plans and as-built fiber routes; input data accurately.

Outside Plant Tech II

Full-time Regular EL Paso, TX, US

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Preps, Terminate, splice, bonds/grounds and tests fiber optic equipment to division standards OSP Aerial and Underground. Terminate inside plant FDP end points
• Perform ring cuts, butt-splices, enter splice cases on live fiber without affecting existing services.
• Perform fiber tests with OTDR’s, light source and meters.
• Provide accurate equipment location, splicing and terminating records for the fiber database and interpret engineering provided drawings.
• Monitor, communicate and perform corrective actions to fix problems affecting any fiber or fiber related equipment.
• Install/replace enclosures and other fiber related telecom equipment as required or instructed.
• Must have experience using and calibrating the following equipment: fusion splicer, mechanical splicer, OTDR, power meters, traffic identifiers, digital multi-meters, cleavers, strippers, buffer tube splitters, cable ring tools, hand tools, toners, duct rodders, ladders, bucket trucks, etc.
• Must possess prior knowledge of OSP and ISP network design and infrastructure principles
• Must possess the ability to interpret plans, drawings, diagrams, and be able to correctly identify and record OSP as-built fiber routes.
• Must be able to maintain accurate records and input data into software programs used for information storage and retrieval

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma, or equivalent
• Candidate must be experienced in modern Fiber Splicing Techniques for the Telecommunications Industry, FOC or FIberOptic.com Certification a plus
• 2 years Fiber optic field splicing experience and test equipment

• 2 years’ experience and demonstrated OSHA certification for operating bucket truck capable of reaching 40’
• Valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required.
