Job summary

Astreya Partners, LLC is seeking an OSP Outside Plant Engineer to design, implement, and maintain fiber networks. You will manage OTDR testing, GIS-based fiber management, vendor relationships, and cross-functional collaboration across multiple concurrent projects.

Responsibilities

  • Fiber administration to maintain and enhance the OSP fiber network.

Job Description: OSP Outside plant Engineer Overview

The Outside Plant (OSP) Fiber Optic Engineer is a critical role responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of fiber optic infrastructure to support reliable and high-performing networks. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, project management skills, and cross-functional coordination to ensure successful delivery of OSP projects. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in OTDR analysation, and GIS-based fiber management systems. They will manage vendor relationships, lead cross-functional meetings, and oversee multiple projects to meet organizational goals. Strong attention to detail and proficiency with industry-standard tools are essential for success in this role. Additionally, the candidate will ensure that all network documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and compliant with company and regulatory standards. This role suits individuals with a strong background in OSP engineering, a passion for technology, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities
  • Fiber Administration Apply expertise in OSP fiber administration practices to maintain and enhance the fiber network.
  • Fiber Optic Troubleshooting , OTDR Testing and Analysis Analyze OTDR testing to assess fiber optic cable integrity and analyze test results to ensure optimal performance.
  • GIS and Record Maintenance Utilize GIS-based fiber management systems for network planning and updates. Review construction as-built drawings and maintain accurate and up-to-date network records.
  • Vendor and Stakeholder Coordination Manage relationships with vendors and cross-functional teams, ensuring smooth coordination of tasks and deliverables.
  • Project Management Lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring all tasks are prioritized and completed within deadlines. Monitor OKRs and dashboards to track project progress and outcomes.
  • Attention to Detail and Quality Assurance Review and edit splice matrices for accuracy and verify new scopes of work. Maintain data integrity across software tooling systems.
  • Team Leadership and Coordination Organize and lead meetings with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and progress. Provide guidance and mentorship to team members as needed.
  • Technical Proficiency Utilize software tools such as FIM, ACC, Gaudi, Ultron, and Glasswork (where applicable). Candidates with experience in equivalent industry-standard platforms are highly encouraged to apply, including:
    • GIS & Fiber Management: IQGeo, 3GIS, OSPInsight, or Esri ArcGIS
    • Project & Infrastructure Management: Sitetracker, Vitruvi, or Procore
    • Workflow & Ticketing Systems: ServiceNow or Salesforce Telecom
    • OTDR Diagnostics: EXFO FastReporter or VIAVI Fiberizer
    Stay informed on emerging tools and technologies relevant to OSP engineering.
  • Documentation and Reporting Create and maintain detailed records, including MOPs (Methods of Procedure), SOWs (Statements of Work), SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), and job aids. Provide regular updates and documentation for project progress and outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum 4 years field experience or Bachelor’s Degree in either Telecommunications Engineering, IT or related field
  • Associate Degree or Certification (Minimum Requirement): Fiber Optics Technology Networking and Communications Electronics Engineering Technology
  • Specialized Training and Certifications (Highly Desirable): Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) or equivalent certifications from the Fiber Optic Association (FOA). OTDR Testing Certification GIS Certification (for advanced GIS-based management systems). Project Management Certification (e.g., PMP or CAPM) for handling multiple projects. Safety Certifications, such as OSHA 10/30 or equivalent safety training relevant to construction and OSP environments.
Additional Knowledge Areas (Optional but Beneficial)

Knowledge of telecommunications industry standards (e.g., ITU-T, ANSI, and IEEE)

Preferred Skills
  • Fiber Optic: Expertise in fiber optic cables and troubleshooting high losses and failures
  • OSP Fiber Administration: Expertise in fiber administration practices
  • OTDR Testing: Knowledge of OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) testing and its application in fiber optic cable testing and associated analysis
  • GIS: Experience with GIS-based fiber management systems and the ability to read construction as-built drawings and maintain records
  • Vendor Management: Excellent communication skills with internal xfn’s and external vendors, including managing vendor relationships and task and coordination
  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and OKR and dashboard management
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in reviewing and editing splice matrices, verifying new scope, and maintaining data integrity in software tooling systems
  • Leadership: Ability to lead and organize meetings, coordinate with cross-functional teams, and provide guidance to other team members
  • Familiarity with various fiber software tools
  • Safety and Compliance: Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance requirements related to OSP work
  • Documentation: Ability to drive process improvements and maintain accurate and up-to-date records and documentation related to OSP work, including MOPs, SOWs, SOPs, and Job-Aids
  • Proficiency in multiple ticketing systems
Salary Range

Salary Range $72,960.00 - $96,000.00 USD (Salary) Please note that the salary information provided herein is base pay only (gross); it does not include other forms of compensation which may or may not apply to this specific position, namely, performance-based bonuses, benefits-related payments, or other general incentives - none of which are guaranteed, may be subject to specific eligibility requirements, and are wholly within the discretion of Astreya to remit. Further, the salary information noted above is a range that consists of a minimum and maximum rate of pay for this specific position. Where an applicant or employee is placed on this range will depend and be contingent on objective, documented work-related considerations like education, experience, certifications, licenses, preferred qualifications, among other factors. This is a remote position.
