Job description

Propulsion Controls Engineering - Outside Machinist Journeyman

Propulsion Controls Engineering (PCE) has a job opening for Outside Machinist Journeyman at our San Diego, CA location. We prefer candidates with a minimum of 5 years of marine and/or shipyard experience. PCE specializes in electro-mechanical and diesel repair, with extensive experience in system overhauls across various ports worldwide on virtually every class of ship.

Job Summary / Outside Machinist:

Responsible for installation, maintenance, and repair of ship's propulsion and auxiliary systems, including but not limited to Steam, Gas Turbine, Diesel propulsion, rudders, steering gear, elevators, and deck equipment, without supervision. Also handles installation, repair, and maintenance of ship's fluid systems such as pumps, compressors, purifiers, heat exchangers, actuators, and valves.

Analyzes defects and repairs electrical and mechanical systems of outboard motors, disassembling and inspecting motors for defective parts using mechanical hand tools. Replaces parts like gears, magneto points, piston rings, and spark plugs, then reassembles engines.

Performs testing of equipment to ensure systems meet specifications, references, and drawings independently. Capable of installing and testing various shop equipment and following repair references and drawings proficiently, including the use of precision measuring tools. Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may be essential to the position.

Job Requirements and Experience / Outside Machinist:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Minimum 5 years of marine and/or shipyard experience preferred.
  • Experience with Marine Hydraulics or Marine Refrigeration is a plus.

Compensation: $26.41 - $32.73 hourly wage
