Position Summary

Repair, modify, or overhaul various types of equipment or systems. Set up and operate portable machining tools or equipment. The role involves heavy lifting, frequent stooping or bending, and potential work in overhead structures, confined spaces, or beneath machinery. Strict adherence to safety and quality standards, good housekeeping, critical thinking, reading comprehension, and willingness to travel/overtime are required.

Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL
  • Perform tasks with limited supervision; familiar with trade qualifications as an Outside Machinist.
  • Understand and perform setup, alignment, and operation of portable and hand tools, and use precision measuring instruments, accurately recording readings and measurements, as well as completing documentation, repair, and testing of equipment.
  • Interpret and work from blueprints, sketches, and specifications. Experience in disassembly, repair, installation, testing, and inspection of ship machinery such as propulsion systems, pumps, valves, ventilation equipment, steering gear, and other mechanical systems.
Qualifications
REQUIRED
  • High School/GED with Apprenticeship Diploma and vocational courses or technical school; or military/civilian marine mechanical experience.
  • Ability to obtain government base access.
  • Knowledge and practical skills tests required.
  • Qualifications such as NAVSEA Hatch Inspector, Electroplating, Deep Submergence Systems (SOC MCD A, B, C), SUBSAFE.
  • Ability to obtain a Secret/Confidential security clearance.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, not dual nationality with another country.
Additional Information
WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is primarily shop/outdoors, characterized by:

  • Outdoor work during day and night shifts.
  • Working near moving and vibrating equipment.
  • High humidity, noise levels over 85 decibels, intense lighting, occasional exposure to fire, sparks, dust, fumes, gases, and extreme temperatures.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY/REQUIREMENTS

This role requires medium physical activity, including occasional lifting of 20-50 pounds, working in confined spaces, climbing, standing, bending, reaching, operating vehicles, and constant lifting of up to 10 pounds. PPE use is mandatory for protection.
