Installs, aligns, and repairs ship machinery such as propelling machinery, auxiliary motors, pumps, ventilating equipment, steering gear, laundry and galley equipment. Works from blueprints and uses hand tools, calipers, and micrometers. Lays out passage holes on bulkheads, decks, and other surfaces for connections such as shafting and steam lines. Aligns reduction gears, bearings, shafting, propellers, and rudder and steering engine assemblies.
Must have basic skills in math, ruler/tape measure reading, and a mechanical background.
