Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat is seeking an Outside Electrician in Groton, CT to install wireways and electrical components across submarine systems, including power, control, and communications. You will test and document work, while wiring ships per NAVSEA procedures and standards.

The role requires basic tool familiarity, ability to read schematics and blueprints, and a willingness to learn power and data cable splicing. Shift availability is required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED, 2+ years of related technical experience or current High School Senior.
  • 0-5 years of relevant experience; must be available for all shifts.
  • EWIB Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative training, if applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Install wireways and cables, electrical components, and systems on submarines.
  • Install, tag out, and test ship's lighting.
  • Hook up cables to electrical components per NAVSEA methods and procedures.
  • Document work and maintain electrical components for inspections.

Overview

Job Responsibilities:

The Outside Electrician is responsible for:

  • Install wireways supporting cables in submarines. Install cables and electrical components (nuclear and non-nuclear) ranging from large powerdistribution switchboards to telephones (also includes control, power,electronics, and weapon systems).
  • Install, tag out, and test ship's lighting.
  • Hook up cables to electrical components in accordance with NAVSEAmethods and procedures, such as hardwire and connecterization.
  • Groom electrical components for a variety of inspections, and also responsible for providing documentation for every job performed. Mechanics are provided skills, including Vulcanization of ship's cables and the installation and maintenance of shipboard temporary services.
  • Applicants will be tasked tolearn power and data/signal cable splicing.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Must have a High School Diploma, GED, have 2+ years of related technical experience or be a current High School Senior
  • 0-5 years of relevant experience
  • Must be available for all shifts.
  • Successful completion of the Eastern CT Workforce Investment Board (EWIB) Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative training program if applicable

Preferred:

  • Vocational, Technical Colleges, Apprentice programs, Military, Shipbuilding, and Manufacturing experience
Skills
  • Ability to read schematics

  • Familiarity/experience with basic tools
  • Experience with multimeters
  • Positive attitude/eager to learn
