Join to apply for the Outreach Worker | Veteran Services role at Collaborative Support Programs of NJ

CSPNJ, a mental health nonprofit agency, is seeking two Outreach Workers for Bergen County. Under the direction of the Team Leader, the Outreach Worker will be responsible for identifying and engaging with unsheltered homeless veterans through direct street outreach activities. The role involves building relationships with veterans experiencing homelessness, providing advocacy, and connecting them to services and housing. The primary focus is to help veterans stabilize their housing, mental health, and primary health situations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Spend approximately 90% of time in the community engaging with unhoused individuals.
  • Identify and connect with homeless veterans.
  • Build supportive relationships and provide advocacy.
  • Assist veterans in accessing resources and housing.

This position serves Bergen, Hudson, and Passaic counties. It is a full-time, benefit-eligible role offering medical, dental, and vision coverage, along with 6 weeks of PTO and 11 holidays.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience in peer support.
  • Knowledge of HMIS software is a plus.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with individuals experiencing chronic homelessness, mental illness, substance use disorders, or with criminal justice involvement.
  • Knowledge of transitional and permanent supportive housing.
  • Willingness to disclose personal experiences with mental health, addiction services, or homelessness, and speak openly about recovery.
  • Ability to work compassionately with individuals with mental illness.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and general computer literacy.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.
  • Valid NJ Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Lived experience with mental health/substance use issues is prioritized.

Compensation: Hourly rate of $24.04
