Qualifications

Fatherhood Outreach Worker

The Fatherhood Outreach Worker provides supportive case management services to fathers in the greater Lawndale community, as part of the Strong Fathers Strong Families program. This program works together to strengthen and support low-income, minority fathers by helping them to strengthen their relationships with their children, families and communities. The Strong Fathers Strong Families program will provide services directly to fathers, collaborate with early childhood programs, in particular the doulas, to improve their ability to include fathers in services to families and inform and advocate for policy decisions that directly impact fathers and their families.

In addition to providing case management services, the Father Outreach Worker will facilitate fathers’ skills-based and support groups, as well as plan father-child enrichment activities in the community. The Father Outreach Worker provides ongoing support to fathers and through the utilization of needs assessments and individual family support plans. The Father Outreach Worker coordinates with local referral partners to ensure the needs of each participant is fully met.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Facilitate weekly and/or biweekly group parenting classes using a specialized curriculum designed to address the unique experiences and needs of fathers.
• Facilitate Fatherhood Support Groups that provide fathers with a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space to give and receive support.
• Provide individualized one-on-one coaching tailored to each father's specific needs, challenges, and goals.
• Provide case management support and referrals to community resources and services, including employment training, housing assistance, legal aid, and other supportive services.
• Provide hands-on assistance and immediate resources that help fathers fulfill their parenting roles effectively and strengthen family stability.
• Plan and facilitate father-child activities, including field trips, multigenerational activities, and family engagement events.
• Provide supplemental services that promote the overall well-being, personal growth, and long-term stability of fathers and their families.
• Coordinate peer mentoring opportunities by connecting fathers with experienced mentors who provide guidance, encouragement, and support.
• Collaborate with trained doulas to provide prenatal and postnatal education, helping fathers understand pregnancy, childbirth, newborn care, and ways to support their partners and children.

The ideal candidate will have the following education and experience:

• High school diploma or GED required; an Associate or Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field preferred.
• At least two years of experience working in a strength-based environment with fathers and families.
• Knowledge and experience working with families experiencing crisis, trauma, or other challenging circumstances.
• Strong group facilitation skills.
• Ability to work effectively with individuals and families from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and populations.
• Reliable transportation and the ability to travel as required for the position.
• Understanding of child development and the developmental needs of children.
• Basic computer skills, including word processing, email, internet research, and online timesheet systems.
• Flexible schedule with availability to work some evening meetings and events.

Salary Range: $45,760/year
