Overview

Yale New Haven Hospital has positions available for certified or certification-eligible phlebotomists in outpatient settings. These outreach phlebotomy positions are non-union. As part of our Laboratory Medicine team, you'll work alongside leading experts in various specialty fields daily. The department's fast-paced, team-oriented environment is progressive, challenging, and rewarding—both personally and professionally.


Responsibilities

  • Understand and adhere to Performance Standards, Policies, and Behaviors.
  • Follow laboratory and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Engage in activities demonstrating professionalism, commitment to competency, and career growth.
  • Follow all specimen collection policies as defined by the hospital.
  • Perform blood culture collections using proper antiseptic techniques.
  • Perform EKGs and collect nasal swabs, if required at the draw station.
  • Communicate clear directions to patients for collecting urine and stool samples.
  • Follow universal precautions for all venipuncture, EKG, or nasal swab collections.
  • Recognize signs of adverse reactions to venipuncture and follow protocols to ensure patient safety.
  • Accurately perform patient registration and transcribe physician orders.
  • Package and transport samples correctly to the laboratory, following procedures.
  • If required, obtain an ABN, explain it to the patient, and scan it into EMR.
  • Maintain sample integrity from collection through transportation and receipt in the lab.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to ensure departmental efficiency.
