Job description

Established in 1980, the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center, Inc. (GLFHC) is a multi-site, mission-driven, non-profit organization employing over 700 staff whose primary focus is providing the highest quality patient care to a culturally diverse population throughout the Merrimack Valley. Nationally recognized as a leader in community medicine (family practice, pediatrics, internal medicine, and geriatrics), GLFHC has clinical sites throughout the service area and is the sponsoring organization for the Lawrence Family Medicine Residency program.

GLFHC is currently seeking an Outreach and Enrollment (O&E) Assistor. Under the supervision of the Director of Patient Access, the O&E Assistor performs all functions necessary to educate and assist patients who lack access to healthcare and health insurance information, as well as education about the portal for insurance enrollment and applying for appropriate coverage. The O&E Assistor is responsible for assisting in the resolution of any insurance issues or referring to ancillary services for resolution of financial issues to ensure coverage for services. In addition to “inreach” assistance to the GLFHC patient population, the O&E Assistor will be the backup to support the O&E Specialist in conducting community-based outreach and education activities with community partners, with the goal of assisting and enrolling as many constituents into appropriate insurance products to ensure coverage.

Responsibilities:
  • Educates patients on various health insurance options via the Health Insurance Market plan and Health exchange portal.
  • Provides structured and accurate patient education on health coverage, engages in follow-up, and offers renewal assistance for enrolled individuals.
  • Works with the O&E Specialist to attend community events in order to facilitate education and enrollment of community members in the Health Exchange as scheduled.
  • Assists community members with enrollment in all available insurance plans (Mass Health, Healthy Start, etc.). When required, assists patients in completing Sliding Fee Applications and explains Health Center policies.
  • At community outreach events, sets up appointments and schedules community members for O&E assistance at clinic sites, if necessary (due to time-sensitive events and crowd flow).
Qualifications:
Experience:
  • Verbal and written expression in both English and Spanish.
  • Experience working with health insurance options.
  • Experience building relationships with community agencies.
  • Experience in planning and implementing projects and coordinating functions, setting goals, and meeting timelines promptly.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Certified Application Counselor (CAC) certified or willing to become CAC certified within 2 months of hire.
Education:
  • High School Diploma; Associate's degree preferred in a human services field or equivalent experience.
