Job summary

Roots Through Recovery in Long Beach, CA is seeking a full-time mental health therapist (Associate) for our outpatient program. Field-based opportunities may serve adolescents, families, or adults, and involve diagnosing and treating substance use and co-occurring disorders.

You will address trauma, teach coping skills, and guide clients through crises while developing resilience. We offer clinician development, EMDR training, and time for continuing education to support your growth.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or higher in counseling, social work, or a related field.
• California associate registration or license in a mental health discipline.
• Experience working with diverse populations.
• Experience with PTSD and complex trauma preferred.
• EMDR training preferred; training provided if not.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and treat substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on client needs and diagnoses.
• Provide ongoing therapy focusing on substance use, trauma, and mental health concerns.
• Address and treat trauma through evidence-based therapeutic techniques.
• Utilize modalities such as CBT, EMDR, and DBT; provide individual, group, and family therapy.
• Teach clients communication skills, coping strategies, and tools for managing stress and emotions.
• Provide crisis intervention and assess safety, creating action plans as needed.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team for integrated care.
• Maintain accurate documentation of progress, treatment plans, and session notes.
• Support families with education about substance use and trauma.
