Job description

Summary
Under supervision, provides diagnostic, counseling, and treatment services to patients demonstrating speech, voice, swallowing, language, cognitive, and/or hearing impairments as established by department policies and procedures. Works collaboratively and cooperatively with supervisor to ensure that quality service delivery standards are met and that the well-being of the consumer is never compromised.

Essential Functions
  1. Under supervision, screens, diagnoses, treats, and counsels patients demonstrating communication and/or swallowing impairment.
  2. Under supervision, performs re-evaluations and follow-up of patients seen for diagnostic sessions and/or for treatment.
  3. Conducts an educational presentation for the SLP staff.
  4. Conducts at least one case presentation to SLP staff.
  5. Under supervision, counsels patients and/or families concerning Speech-Language Pathology services and relevant patient care.
Education

Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology required.

Licenses and Credentials

Grace Period for License Eligibility [Massachusetts] - MGB Internal preferred.

Experience

Clinical Fellowship begins upon completion of master's level education in Speech-Language Pathology/Communication Disorders. Clinical hours required during master's degree program: 350 hours.

  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology of speech and hearing mechanisms, and ability to communicate that knowledge to patients and families.
  • Patient and family counseling techniques.
  • Familiarity with current treatment approaches to all communication and swallowing disorders.
  • Ability to meet all documentation requirements and deadlines.
  • Dependability, perseverance, and flexibility.
  • Effective and efficient communication of diagnostic and treatment results to patients, families, referral sources, and others through written and verbal modalities.
