What To Expect (Job Responsibilities)

• Accurately code Outpatient Surgery and Observation records using the ICD10CM and CPT4 coding systems
• Ensure compliance with coding rules and regulations as mandated by regulatory agencies
• Collaborate with team members to achieve departmental and accounts receivable goals
• Abstract prescribed data elements from medical records for reporting and analysis
• Maintain knowledge of coding systems and coverage determinations relevant to outpatient services
  
  

What Is Required (Qualifications)

• Minimum educational requirement: High School Diploma, Certificate, GED, or equivalent training/experience
• AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification required
• Required Coding Certificate, with a mandate to obtain CCS or RHIT certification within 2 years if not certified upon hire (except for specific employees)
• Minimum of 3 years of coding experience in a healthcare setting
• Competency in Microsoft Word and Excel, with effective communication skills
  
  

How To Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)

• Knowledge of encoder systems, outpatient prospective payment systems (OPPS), APCs, and Ambulatory Surgical Center payment systems (ASC)
• Understanding of National and Local Coverage Determination (NCD and LCD) policies
