Job summary

Allina Health in Saint Paul, Minnesota is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support pharmacists by accurately preparing and dispensing medications. You will manage inventory, process prescriptions, and provide excellent customer service to patients.

The role operates under pharmacist supervision and includes QA duties and potential project support. Responsibilities include data entry, order fulfilment, inventory restocking, and assisting with returns or reporting discrepancies.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age with education and/or experience needed to meet required functional competencies as listed on the job description.
• Registered Pharmacy Technician - MN Board of Pharmacy required upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Prescription Filling: Entry into pharmacy management software, fulfilment of reviewed orders, final dispense.
• Customer Service: Greet patients, assist internal and external customers, obtain needed information, assist with copay support.
• Inventory Management: receipt/restock of orders, transfer of medications, restock robots, troubleshoot equipment, handle discrepancies.
• Quality Assurance: monitor expiration dates, perform cleaning, report discrepancies to pharmacist or supervisor.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job description

As a pharmacy technician, you ensure patient safety by accurately preparing and dispensing medications. Your efficiency in managing inventory and processing prescriptions allows pharmacists to focus on patient care. By providing excellent customer service and medication guidance, you enhance patient satisfaction and adherence to treatment plans. The technician functions under the supervision of the pharmacist. Provides basic prescription filling, inventory management and customer service. May assists with other pharmacy projects.

Principle Responsibilities

• Prescription Filling
  • Order entry into pharmacy management software.
  • Fulfilment of reviewed orders.
  • Final dispense according to disposition.
  • Reduces audit risk through proper checks including, but not limited to, DAW, days supply, NDC validation, dates of service, discrete directions and other standard practices.
• Customer Service
  • Provides service to internal and external customers.
  • Greets patients, employees and staff in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Obtains needed information through direct patient contact to support prescription filling.
  • Advocates for patients by searching for manufacturer and foundation copay assistance.
• Technician will routinely complete the following responsibilities to manage and support drug distribution
  • Inventory Management – receipt and restock of wholesaler orders, transfer of medications to internal pharmacies.
  • Medication picking in support of prescription filling.
  • Restocks automated dispensing robots.
  • May troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment.
  • May assist with returns, waste, and reporting/resolution of discrepancies.
• Complete and document quality assurance activities
  • Monitors expiration dating.
  • Performs cleaning.
  • Reports discrepancies or inaccuracies to pharmacist or supervisor.
• Other duties as assigned.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $20.79 to $28.31 per hour

The pay described reflects the base hiring pay range. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable). Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may be available to increase your pay rate for certain shifts or work.
