Job summary

Carolinas Medical Center is seeking a part-time Recreational Therapist for its Aurora Behavioral Health outpatient program focusing on children and adolescents. The role involves facilitating activity-based therapies 24 hours per week, Monday–Thursday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, with a 30-minute break.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's in Recreational Therapy and can work within a multidisciplinary team while maintaining documentation and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Recreational Therapy.
• Typically 1 year of experience in a behavioral health setting; clinical field work may substitute.

Responsibilities

• Develops, plans, implements and evaluates recreational/experiential therapy to help patients meet treatment goals.
• Individualizes therapy programs for patients and facilitates activities across care continuum.
• Provides leadership, models behavior, and integrates group dynamics into sessions.
• Completes all documentation promptly and accurately.
• Participates in treatment planning by assessing psychosocial needs from activity perspective.
• Educates other disciplines on recreational therapy principles and ongoing program evaluation.
• Monitors patient behavior and uses de-escalation techniques as needed.
• Maintains equipment and supplies and ensures safety standards are followed.
