Job Description

Accurately registers patients with appropriate demographic information, determines orders needed, collects all required specimens including blood, urine, or swabs, prioritizes workflow with appropriate sense of urgency, performs EKGs, processes specimens for courier transport to the laboratory, communicates effectively with referring physicians, collaborates with team members and leadership, assists in training new team members, and performs clerical and miscellaneous duties as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Registers patients for correct testing, utilizing EMS to register patients, obtaining demographic information, insurance card, driver license, etc.
  • Collaborates with patients to determine necessary orders and links them to the patient’s appointment
  • Obtains blood and urine specimens following proper protocols, including patient identification, blood collection techniques, and safety procedures
  • Labels all samples in front of the patient
  • Handles communication and clerical duties, including answering phones, responding to emails, completing forms, and training staff
  • Performs preanalytical processing, including sample collection, processing, and transportation
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of work areas and supplies
  • Performs other duties such as assisting with patient care, supporting team members, and responding to emergencies
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED; formal phlebotomy training required
  • At least one year of phlebotomy experience preferred
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred
  • Skills in patient registration, specimen collection, communication, and basic computer applications
