Job Summary

Safely and accurately perform venipunctures, arterial and capillary specimen collections as requested in adults, children, and infants. Include interpretation of physician orders and ensuring all requests are accurately and completely processed in the information system. Complete all required compliance processes.

FT 32 hrs. week with E/O Saturday

Job Duties

• Greet patients using the AIDET (PHLEBOT) model, giving instructions and directions to provide quality patient experiences.
• Evaluate physician orders for specimen type, time of draw, and specific handling requirements. Use work lists to organize draws.
• Use hospital and laboratory computer systems for information and request clarification. Use PDA for patient identification, printers, and phones for communication and organization.
• Communicate with physician offices, pharmacy, and other staff to ensure proper specimen collection and processing.
• Collect quality samples according to policies, using appropriate devices. Handle various body fluids for testing.
• Maintain and organize work areas, carts, and inpatient units to ensure safety and orderliness.
• Know collection and ordering requirements for labs and demonstrate knowledge of compliance policies.
• Collect specimens at other healthcare facilities and cover other laboratory sites as needed, utilizing courier services and meeting safe driver standards.
• Attend in-services and continuing education to enhance skills.
• Participate in ongoing education and training, promoting quality patient care and a positive work environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Credentials, Licenses: High School diploma or GED; Valid Driver License and meet insurance requirements.

Specialized Knowledge: Computer literacy.

Experience: Customer service experience preferred.
