Job summary

Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center’s outpatient pharmacy is seeking a reliable Pharmacy Technician to join our full-time team. You will assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medications, maintaining inventory, and ensuring regulatory compliance while engaging with patients.

The role supports Meds to Beds, delivers bedside discharge prescriptions, and collaborates with Social Work/Care Management to improve access to medications.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• State pharmacy tech registration/licensure required.
• Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (CPhT) or ExCPT certification within 18 months from start date.

Responsibilities

• Assists licensed pharmacist in technical duties related to preparation and distribution of medications.
• Accurately selects, prepares, and labels medications for patients including hazardous drugs and controlled substances.
• Assists with medication distribution tasks.
• Screens phone calls and routes as needed using proper telephone etiquette.
• Assists in daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking.
• Complete documentation for removing, stocking, and wasting controlled substances where applicable.
• Perform nonsterile compounding following USP standards where applicable.
• Perform sterile IV admixtures using proper aseptic technique where applicable.
• Inspects medication storage areas for storage policy adherence.
• Completes and documents medication admission histories where applicable.
• Seeks additional duties when required and accepts other duties as assigned.
• May participate in quality improvement initiatives to assure excellence of services.
• May assist in training pharmacy technicians and extenders in policies and workflows.
• Adheres to organizational policies and regulatory standards.
• Supports area leaders regarding goals and work assignments.
• Obtains patient demographic information and performs data entry for record keeping, insurance verification and label generation.
• Develops competence in third-party billing functions.
• Demonstrates knowledge to provide age-appropriate patient care.
• May obtain immunization certification and administer vaccines under supervision where applicable.
• Delivers medications and essential supplies using a Health-owned vehicle as required.
