Job summary

UNC Health in Durham, NC is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support pharmacists by receiving, reviewing, compounding and dispensing medications. This full-time role works under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist and participates in a dedicated Pharmacy Technician Incentive Program offering $5,000 in commitment incentives over two years.

Qualifications

• Registration as a technician with the NC Board of Pharmacy (or enrolled as a PharmD student eligible for internship).
• CPhT from PTCB or ExCPT from NHA; waiver possible during PharmD program.
• Prior pharmacy technician experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Compound and/or prepares medications under pharmacist supervision.
• Document pharmaceutical activities with data accuracy.
• Operate automated dispensing technology to supply medications per orders.
• Order, receive, restock, rotate inventory; train new staff.
• Contribute to process improvement projects.
• Complete regulatory inspections of storage areas and inventories, including controlled substances.

Summary:

The Certified technician provides general support to the pharmacist by receiving, reviewing, compounding and dispensing medications. All work is carried out under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.

This position qualifies for our Pharmacy Technician Incentive Program, which includes $5000 in commitment incentives spread over a two-year period. Payment is made after six months, one year, and two years of employment.

Responsibilities

1. Compounds and/or prepares medications (sterile products, oral, topical, controlled substances, etc.) including high-risk medication processes as defined by the entity, as authorized by a physician, under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.
2. Documents pharmaceutical activities including quality control requirements, etc. using automated and paper systems. Ensures accuracy of data.
3. Operates and supports automated dispensing technology to supply correct medications for individual patients, according to pharmacist and physician orders.
4. Orders, receives, restocks, and rotates inventory, and completes expiration date management. Assists with training of new employees, educating them in job-specific functions.
5. Contributes to process improvement projects.
6. Completes regulatory compliance inspection of medication storage areas, including inspections and/or controlled substance inventories, USP797 and other regulatory documentation as required.

Education Requirements

• None required as long as other position qualifications are met. Current enrollment in PharmD program if working as a registered pharmacy intern with NC Board of Pharmacy.

Licensure/Certification Requirements

• Registration as a technician with the NC Board of Pharmacy unless enrolled in a PharmD program. If currently enrolled, an NCBOP Pharmacy Intern registration may be accepted.
• CPhT from PTCB or ExCPT from NHA unless enrolled in a PharmD program; if enrolled, this can be waived for the duration of the PharmD program.

Professional Experience Requirements

• Prior pharmacy technician experience is preferred.
