Job summary

Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium is seeking a Coding Technician to support outpatient coding and DNFC reporting. You will work under coding leadership to ensure timely, accurate coding for straightforward encounters and help with productivity reporting.

The role requires basic coding knowledge, a high school diploma, and 6 months in health information management. CPC-A/CPC/RHIT/CCA preferred. Automation and team collaboration are emphasized.

Summary

The Coding Technician supports the Outpatient Coding Managers by performing essential functions related to outpatient coding and encounter management. This role is responsible for managing the DNFC (Discharged Not Final Coded) reporting, ensuring timely and accurate coding of straightforward outpatient encounters, and maintaining productivity benchmarks. The Coding Technician also assists in compiling and reporting coding productivity and quality data, following up on unresolved encounters, and addressing straightforward coding-related denials. This position requires attention to detail, adherence to coding guidelines, and collaboration with clinical and revenue cycle teams to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of outpatient coding processes.

Responsibilities

DNFC (Discharged, Not Final Coded) Report Management

• Process the DNFC report daily.
• Will work under the direction of the coding manager to support DNFC task.
• Calculate and communicate DNFC-related financial data to Revenue Cycle leadership.

Problem Resolution & Collaboration

• Works with Revenue Cycle and clinical areas coding to resolve problematic encounter.
• Assist in addressing coding bottlenecks and ensuring documentation completeness.
• Reviews and resolves registration discrepancies prior to coder intervention.

Productivity Data & Reporting

• Calculate and communicate coder productivity data to HIM coding leadership.

Coding Tasks

• Perform straightforward coding tasks assigned under the direction of coding leadership to ensure coding guidelines are met.
• Completes encounter combines when needed.
• Resolves denials under the direction of the coding leadership to ensure coding guidelines are met.
• Maintains the confidentiality of patient records and procedures.

Performs other duties as assigned.

• Generalized understanding of coding fundamentals such as CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS.
• Generalized understanding Revenue Cycle workflow.
• Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.
