Job summary

Northwell Health seeks an outpatient coder to accurately code and abstract medical records for reimbursement and statistics. You will apply ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding guidelines and ensure compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities include querying physicians when documentation is unclear, entering data into the billing system, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines and performance improvement activities.

Qualifications

• Basic familiarity with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Usage of coding manuals and regulatory websites for research.
• Certification from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) or the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) such as CPC, CPC-H, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA or RHIT is required.

Responsibilities

• Codes outpatient medical records promptly and accurately per policy.
• Translates verbal disease/injury/procedure descriptions into ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 codes.
• Requests physician/department clarification when documentation is incomplete or ambiguous.
• Enter required data into the computer system for reimbursement and statistics.
• Maintain coding accuracy and stay updated on applicable guidelines.
