Job summary

Care New England Health System is seeking a Certified Outpatient Coder to assign ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPCS codes for a wide range of outpatient records, including observation, procedures, ER and specialty services. Strong knowledge of coding guidelines and compliance is essential.

Responsibilities include analyzing records, coding and performing quality checks, ensuring CMS, AHA and AMA guidelines are met, and maintaining confidentiality.

Qualifications

• High School or GED required; Associate's degree preferred.
• At least three years hospital coding experience within the last five years.
• Preferred CCS certification; Certified Professional Coder (CPC) considered with experience.
• Completed coursework in medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, ICD-10 and CPT conventions.

Responsibilities

• Analyze medical records and extract data per ICD-10-CM guidelines.
• Assign ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS, CPT and HCPCS codes and perform quality checks.
• Determine accurate discharge disposition for reimbursement.
• Ensure CMS, AHA and AMA guidelines are followed.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient records.
• Collaborate with department lead/manager to resolve coding issues.
