Job summary

e4health is seeking an Outpatient Coder for a remote, non-exempt role. You will abstract and code data in client EMR systems following ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS guidelines, and CMS directives. Strong accuracy (95%+) and productivity are required.

Required AHIMA or AAPC credential with 3+ years of coding experience, including spinal procedures and general surgery. Epic/3M experience is essential; U.S. work authorization is required.

Qualifications

  • Must possess an approved AHIMA or AAPC coding credential.
  • Minimum 3 years of coding experience.
  • Experience with Trauma Level 1 and Academic Teaching facilities preferred.
  • Extensive experience coding spinal procedures and general surgery.
  • Client uses Epic/3M.
  • Must have U.S. work experience and reside in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS codes and modifiers to patient accounts per workflow.
  • Abstract and enter coded data and charges for reporting requirements.
  • Query physicians to clarify information when needed.
  • Communicate coding issues to Clinical Documentation Improvement and Revenue Cycle teams.
  • Maintain productivity,quality, and credential requirements.

Job Summary

The Outpatient Coder is responsible for accurately abstracting data into appropriate client electronic medical record systems, following the Official ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Guidelines for Coding, AMA CPT Guidelines, and CMS directives. Performs data entry of required abstracted patient information into the client’s information system. Queries physicians when appropriate and interacts with Clinical Documentation staff as per account requirements. Maintains consistent coding accuracy rate of 95% or better while also meeting productivity standards.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Assigns appropriate ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS codes and modifiers to facility-based Ancillary, Emergency Department, Observation, and/or Outpatient Surgery Accounts as per designated workflow
  • Abstracts and enters coded data and/or charges for hospital statistical and reporting requirements
  • Queries physicians to clarify conflicting, imprecise, incomplete, ambiguous, and/or inconsistent clinical information when appropriate
  • Communicates documentation improvement opportunities and coding issues to appropriate personnel for follow up and resolutionCommunicates with Clinical Documentation Improvement and/or Revenue Cycle teams for follow up and reconciliation of accounts
  • Maintains required productivity and quality requirements
  • Maintains coding credential requirements

  • This role requires prolonged periods of desk working on a computer

This is a remote role; work is performed in a home office environment.

Requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Candidate must possess an approved AHIMA or AAPC coding credential
  • Minimum 3 years’ coding experience required; Trauma Level 1 and Academic Teaching facility experience preferred
  • Must have extensive experience coding: Spinal procedures, including complex spinal fusions, revisions, hardware removal/replacement, interbody procedures, decompressions, and related grafting. Along with general surgery, wound care
  • Client uses Epic/3M
  • Must have at least 3 years of relevant professional experience while living and working in the United States.
