UNC Health is seeking a full-time Clinical Dietitian I to join their Outpatient Nutrition Services team at UNC Hospitals. The ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree in a related Dietetics field and at least three years of experience as a Registered Dietitian (RD) with two years of experience in the clinical specialty area. The candidate must also be licensed as a Dietitian/Nutritionist (LDN) by the North Carolina Board of Dietetics and Nutrition.

The Clinical Dietitian I will be responsible for providing professional outpatient nutrition consultations via telehealth and face-to-face care to patients at UNC Hospitals outpatient clinics. The candidate will also develop and implement nutrition care plans, provide nutrition education, and counsel patients on healthy eating habits.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assess nutritional needs using standardized practice and critical thinking.
  2. Act as a resource person for the clinical team and serve as a liaison between medical specialties and ancillary services.
  3. Assist in achieving compliance with accreditation standards to improve safety and quality of care.
  4. Attend medical rounds, patient care conferences, and continuing education/staff meetings.
  5. Develop, implement, and monitor nutrition care plans and participate in care coordination and discharge processes.
  6. Lead, direct, and manage work assigned to others within the department.
  7. Document all aspects of nutrition care in the medical record.
  8. Create/update evidence-based protocols and train others to ensure current practices.
  9. Identify professional development needs and mentor others in clinical practice.
  10. Participate in training clinical nutrition interns as a preceptor.
  11. Engage in clinical research, training, or quality improvement projects related to clinical practice.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a related Dietetics field
  • At least three years of experience as a Registered Dietitian (RD) with two years in a clinical specialty
  • Licensed as a Dietitian/Nutritionist (LDN) by the North Carolina Board of Dietetics and Nutrition
  • Knowledge of the Nutrition Care Process and ability to apply all steps
  • Comprehensive knowledge of medical nutrition therapy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
