Medical Coding Integrity Specialist, Outpatient - Remote

Job Summary

The Medical Coding Integrity Specialist, Outpatient is responsible for completing quality assurance reviews on internal or external outpatient coding specialists or external providers. The facility-based chart types may include Emergency Department, Observation, Same Day Surgery, Ancillary, Interventional Radiology, or Facility-Based Clinic. This role also involves onboarding audits and training of newly hired e4health coding specialists. The specialist validates accurate data abstraction into client electronic medical records, following ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, AMA CPT Guidelines, and CMS directives. They report quality results, track educational opportunities, respond to client needs, and provide training. The role requires maintaining a coding auditing accuracy rate of 95% or higher while meeting productivity standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Complete scheduled quality assurance reviews for clients.
  2. Perform onboarding quality assurance reviews for new hires.
  3. Provide training to newly hired coding consultants.
  4. Communicate quality issues to management.
  5. Assist in developing and monitoring quality improvement plans.
  6. Maintain reports and accuracy rates.
  7. Respond to client QA needs as directed.
  8. Provide educational sessions on error trends.
  9. Notify management of compliance concerns.
  10. Handle patient information with confidentiality, adhering to HIPAA regulations.
  11. Participate in educational calls and provide coding support as needed.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned, maintaining productivity and quality standards.
  13. Maintain coding credentials as required.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Approved AHIMA or AAPC coding credential.
  2. At least 4 years of coding experience; specialty experience preferred.
  3. At least 2 years of auditing experience preferred.
  4. Remote work experience preferred.
