This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company’s locations: Homewood Mountain & Lake Club, set on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe in Homewood, California. Homewood is seeking an Outdoor Pursuits Supervisor to join the Outdoor Pursuits Department.
Key Responsibilities
Winter Team Leadership & Supervision
- Directly supervise the Outdoor Pursuits Coordinator, Guides, Coaches, Attendants through the winter season, ensuring adequate daily coverage across all activities.
- Conduct performance reviews and manage promotions, corrective action, and terminations for direct reports, in partnership with the Human Resources Team.
- Support recruiting and onboarding of winter Outdoor Pursuits staff, in partnership with the Director of Club Operations and Human Resources.
- Run and attend staff daily briefings, and take part in the duty management schedule.
- Foster a collaborative, team-first culture that reflects Homewood's service and safety standards.
Winter Safety & Risk Management
- Oversee day-to-day execution of Homewood's winter Outdoor Pursuits safety program, including risk assessments, incident response, and certification tracking for all Guides.
- Serve as the on-the-ground point of contact for trip go/no-go calls involving weather, terrain, or avalanche risk, in partnership with the AIARE avalanche program lead, escalating significant risk decisions to the Director of Club Operations.
- Maintain compliance with applicable outdoor recreation safety regulations and insurance requirements.
- Lead post-incident review and documentation, escalating necessary process changes to the Director of Club Operations.
Winter Program & Guest Experience Oversight
- Oversee the daily execution of Homewood's winter Outdoor Pursuits programming, including ski, snowboard, snowshoe, backcountry, and cat and UTV tour offerings, along with the AIARE avalanche education program.
- Maintain working knowledge of all winter activities offered, and be prepared to step in and instruct or guide as needed.
- Monitor guide and staff interactions with members and guests, coaching in real time to uphold Homewood's service standards.
- Respond to and resolve escalated member concerns related to Outdoor Pursuits programming.
Administration & Reporting
- Perform daily department administration, including scheduling, timekeeping, and payroll input for the winter team.
- Support purchase orders and procurement with approval from the Director of Club Operations.
- Track winter operating costs and flag budget concerns to the Director of Club Operations.
- Provide activity and performance reports to the Director of Club Operations as needed.
Cross-Department Coordination & Member Experience
- Partner with Member Services, Sales & Marketing, and Wellness on member events, prospect experiences, and program cross-promotion.
- Uphold and model exceptional member-focused service, setting the standard for the team's daily execution.
Other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a luxury resort setting or related hospitality field.
- Minimum 2 years of direct staff supervision experience required.
- Strong knowledge of winter mountain operations, including ski, snowboard, and backcountry programming; AIARE avalanche certification or equivalent strongly preferred.
- First Aid/CPR qualified.
- Previous experience teaching or coaching outdoor activities.
- Previous experience in the guest service industry.

- Must be able to work flexible work hours/schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Long hours may be required due to business demands.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to stay calm and focused during the busiest of times.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English; additional languages preferred.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including, but not limited to, working indoors and outdoors in winter mountain conditions, standing, walking, and moving for periods of greater than eight (8) hours, and lifting and carrying items sometimes greater than fifty (50) pounds.

The Company's good faith estimate of the annual salary it expects to pay for this role is $72,500-$85,000 and is based on applicable and specialized experience and location.
