Job summary

Ohio University Recreation seeks an Outdoor Pursuit Assistant to join the Outdoor Pursuits team in Athens, OH. The role involves supporting four program areas: Climbing Wall, Challenge Course, Rental Center, and Trips/Clinics, while upholding the unit’s mission and values.

This is an entry-level position. Staff are hired to Outdoor Pursuits as an OPA and serve as a secondary staff member on the climbing wall or during all-staff trainings.

Responsibilities

• Must display dependability, motivation, and adaptability.
• Know and enforce all policies and procedures.
• Maintain a safe and clean environment for both staff and participants.
• Review and complete all necessary paperwork, and any paperwork created during shift.
• Participation and completion of all in-service training sessions and mandatory meetings.
• Effectively communicate with patrons, fellow staff, supervisors, Graduate Assistants, and Assistant Director of Outdoor Pursuits.
• Regularly check and respond to work-related emails.
• Respond to patrons’ inquiries or concerns and refer them to Supervisor or Management Staff when needed.

Outdoor Pursuit Assistant

Outdoor Pursuits employees are expected to work in all four of the program areas: Climbing Wall, Challenge Course, Rental Center, Trips/Clinics. Outdoor Pursuits employees have a commitment to upholding the mission, vision, and values of Ohio University Recreation.

This is Outdoor Pursuits’ entry-level position. All staff are hired to Outdoor Pursuits as an OPA. Staff work in the OPA role when working as a secondary staff member at the climbing wall or when attending any generalized all-staff training.
