Job summary

The City of Newberry is looking for a Maintenance Worker to join the Public Works Department - Maintenance team. This outdoor role involves operating equipment to maintain streets, signs, and city facilities year-round. Working hours are 7am–3pm, three days a week.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, ability to lift up to 100 lbs, outdoor work, and a valid SC ID or driver’s license with the ability to obtain an SC CDL.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to lift and carry weights up to 100 pounds.
• Work in outdoor environment; ability to meet physical demands.
• Valid SC identification or driver’s license; ability to attain an SC Commercial Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and operate equipment including tractor, backhoe, weed eater, front-end loader, mower and brush hog for city maintenance.
• Replace street signs, clean/repair storm drains, and clean City buildings and parking lots.
• Spread dirt and paint; keep City streets in good condition year-round.
• Respond to after-hours emergencies as needed and assist as a sanitation worker when required.
