Job summary

Wyoming Life Resource Center (WLRC) in Lander, WY seeks a Buildings and Grounds Specialist to maintain campus grounds, operate heavy equipment, and perform outdoor maintenance year-round. The role includes landscaping, equipment handling, and safety compliance while working around WLRC residents.

Qualifications include 2–4 years in Building and Grounds or an Associate's Degree, with strong communication and the ability to work independently in all weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Experience in landscaping and grounds upkeep, especially using heavy equipment (backhoes, tractors, mowers).
• Ability to learn and safely operate required heavy equipment.
• Knowledge of safety rules and agency procedures.
• Ability to work independently and manage tasks.
• Strong communication skills, both speaking and writing.
• Ability to work around WLRC residents, including those with challenging behaviors.

Responsibilities

• Maintain lawns, green spaces, sidewalks, and roads on campus.
• Operate heavy equipment safely (tractors, backhoes, bulldozers, trenchers, mowers, bucket trucks, dump trucks).
• Use power tools and hand tools (chainsaws, sweepers).
• Care for lawns: mow, water, fertilize, weed control.
• Plant, prune, and remove trees; general landscaping.
• Apply pesticides/herbicides safely.
• Year-round maintenance including snow removal.
• Repair campus infrastructure: streets, parking lots, sidewalks, fencing.
• Perform basic construction: concrete, carpentry, plumbing.
• Install and fix sprinkler systems; irrigations; irrigation ditch system.
• Prepare graves and maintain cemetery grounds/headstones.
• Assist other operations departments.
