Job summary

Upham Woods Outdoor Learning Center at UW–Madison is seeking a reliable Buildings and Grounds Maintenance Technician to repair and maintain facilities, assist in preventive maintenance, and ensure safe, efficient operation of all buildings and grounds on site.

The role requires physical work, the ability to lift 50 pounds, and outdoor work in varying weather, with occasional on-call coverage outside regular hours and night/weekend differentials.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in facilities maintenance, building operations, or a related field.
• Ability to read, interpret, and follow written work instructions, schedules, safety notices, and equipment operating procedures.
• Working knowledge of workplace safety practices and PPE.
• Ability to perform physical requirements including lifting and standing for extended periods.
• Ability to work independently while contributing to a small facilities team.
• Ability to collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Assists trades, crafts, vendors, and technical staff with construction, design, and maintenance as needed.
• Utilizes equipment to repair and maintain machinery and facility property to prevent damage.
• Performs routine facility inspections and monitors cleanliness.
• Troubleshoots, escalates, and documents issues according to policies.
• Receives, inspects, inventories, and distributes deliveries under general supervision.
