  • Academic background in education, environmental studies, outdoor recreation, or related field is beneficial.

Role Description

The Outdoor Educator is a part-time, on-site role based in Poulsbo, WA. This position is responsible for designing and leading engaging outdoor lessons and activities that align with WildWise School's guild-based curriculum and values. Day-to-day tasks include planning and delivering educational experiences in nature, guiding students in core outdoor and crafting skills, and fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. The Outdoor Educator will collaborate with colleagues to coordinate programs, prepare materials and equipment, assess student progress, and help to fulfill the mission of WildWise. The role also involves supervising students during outdoor play, modeling environmental stewardship, and contributing to ongoing program development.


Qualifications

  • Strong background in Education and Teaching, with experience delivering experiential or outdoor learning programs.
  • Demonstrated skill in Lesson Planning and Training to design structured, safe, and engaging outdoor activities.
  • Excellent Communication skills, including the ability to convey information clearly to learners of different ages and to collaborate effectively with staff and families.
  • Experience working with youth in outdoor, camp, school, or community program settings.
  • Knowledge of outdoor safety, risk management, and basic first aid; relevant certifications (e.g., First Aid/CPR, Wilderness First Aid) are preferred.
  • Ability to work outside in varying weather conditions and terrain, and to supervise groups in dynamic outdoor environments.
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive, respectful, and non-discriminatory learning environment.
  • Relevant academic background in education, environmental studies, outdoor recreation, or a related field is beneficial.
